Moments Are For Us
Working to live life, fighting against time, making every second count.
Call me naive.
All we aim for, all we love, all of our lives these moments are for us.
We’re near the almost
We’re here and now
Loving, with consequence, is it’s own reward.
So this is me, living free, the way I’m supposed to be;
Head in the clouds, heart on my sleeve, with only one thing to believe:
We’ll make mistakes, we’ll lose our way
Only to find how we define what it means to be alive.
Everything you feel inside, let no one shut it down.
You have a voice we want to hear.
Sing it out! We want to hear.
Living, with consequence, is its own reward.
So this is me, living free, the way I’m supposed to be;
Head in the clouds, heart on my sleeve, with only one thing to believe:
We’ll make mistakes, we’ll lose our way
Only to find how we define what it means to be alive.
Let me live, and let live.
So this is me, living free, the way I’m supposed to be;
Head in the clouds, heart on my sleeve, with only one thing to believe:
So this is me, living free, the way I’m supposed to be;
Head in the clouds, heart on my sleeve, with only one thing to believe:
We’ll make mistakes, we’ll lose our way
Only to find how we define what it means to be alive.
-This was the second song we co-wrote with Dan Parker, and was originally intended to be one of six songs we were going to release as our first EP (until we decided to write more and release our first full length album, ONE). Up until that point, every song we’d written was incredibly serious, powerful, and heavy… something we do fairly well. We went in with a different idea in mind for this one. We wanted a song that maintained a “Stormy” feel, but was a little more light hearted, thus, Moments Are For Us was born.
The verses are meant to be a call to each one of us, of feeling so close to living how we want, and being just within reach. The chorus is the response to that feeling, not allowing our-self to be held back by other peoples perceptions of life and reality and what it should look like. I love the line, “We’ll make mistakes, we’ll lose our way” and how easily it is thrown in there. This life is not without it’s bad choices, and sometimes, while trying to find ourselves, we lose ourselves, or “Our way.” But it’s us who define how we live, not our parents, not our teachers, our government, or an archaic book. We determine what it means to live and what it means to love. This brings out the idea behind my absolute favorite line in the song, “Living, with consequence, is it’s own reward.” The fact that you get to live and pursue your dreams, loves, and passions, is a reward in itself. Whether you fail or lose yourself along the way, you got to live. If you fall short of your dreams, at least you got to chase them. Most people don’t even get that opportunity. Up until now, we are the elite of history, living in the best time so far on earth, with the most advanced technology, and a consciousness constantly on the verge of learning more about us and the universe around us. These days and these moments are for US. Let’s live and make them the best we know how.
